Metal detection for spices, powders and ingredients
Ingredient producers sit upstream of everyone else in the food chain. A contamination that leaves your plant travels into somebody else's finished product — which is why detection standards in this segment are often stricter than in the sectors you supply.
Where contamination enters a powder line
- Raw material intake. Bulk deliveries and big bags bring in whatever the previous handler left behind
- Sieve mesh failure, which sheds fine wire directly into the product stream
- Mill and grinder wear — the highest-energy part of the process and a genuine source
- Conveying equipment — screw flights, airlock rotors and their fasteners
Dry product detects well — use that
Powders and dry granulate produce very low product effect, so the achievable sensitivity is among the best in food production. That is an advantage worth exploiting rather than a reason to relax: it means the critical limits you can defend are genuinely tight.
The practical constraint here is not detection but reaction time. Product in free fall moves fast, so the reject valve has to sit close to the coil and act in fractions of a second. That is a construction decision, matched to drop height and flow.
Where one drop pipe is not enough. On lines that split into two streams, or where throughput would force a single detector into a larger and therefore less sensitive aperture, we build a double installation: two detectors in parallel drop pipes, each with its own reject valve, sharing one control position. Two smaller apertures detect better than one large one.

What we typically supply
Bagging and packing
Free-fall detector in the drop pipe above the bagging machine.
Intake and sifting
Free-fall detection immediately after the sifter, where mesh failure would otherwise pass wire straight into the product stream.
Packed ingredients
Conveyor system after bagging, for sacks and cartons.
Your customers will audit you on this
Ingredient suppliers are routinely audited by the food manufacturers they supply, and metal detection documentation is a standard part of that. Being able to hand over a calibration report and a test protocol without preparation is worth more than it costs.
We supply traceable test pieces and documented calibration for exactly that reason.
